The Story Behind Us

The Centre for Mathematical Outreach (CMO) is a student-led initiative under the Maths Association at Xavier’s (MAX) that strives to make mathematics more engaging, accessible, and intellectually rewarding for all. Whether you’re a first-year student discovering proofs for the first time, a math enthusiast who enjoys solving non routine puzzles, or someone who just loves the elegance of abstract ideas, CMO is for you.

At its heart, the CMO believes that mathematics is not just a subject, but a way of thinking, questioning, and exploring. Our mission is to nurture this culture both within our college and across institutions by building a collaborative community of curious minds.

Our goals:

  • Math Circles: We host interactive math circles with students from various Mumbai colleges (KC, Jai Hind, Ruia, Somaiya, Ruparel, etc.), where we dive deep into fun, non-routine math problems and concepts in an informal, collaborative setting.
  • The Curious Quest: Our monthly newsletter features hand-picked problems, thought-provoking puzzles, and the occasional dose of mathematical humor and art.
  • Workshops and Talks: From LaTeX to Python, from graph theory to probability—we organize professor and peer-led workshops to build useful skills and mathematical intuition in a hands-on, peer-driven manner.
  • Open Source Problem Sharing: We encourage students to contribute original problems, elegant solutions, and mathematical articles to our growing archive of student-created content.

Why Join?

Because math deserves to be shared. And you’re not alone in loving it.
At CMO, we’re building a space where you can:

  • Learn and grow beyond the syllabus
  • Collaborate with passionate problem solvers
  • Showcase your ideas and contributions to a growing community
  • Be a part of a movement to make mathematics cool, curious, and community-driven

If you’d like to contribute, collaborate, or just stay in the loop, don’t hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] or follow our updates through MAX.

Come for the problems, stay for the people.
